Social Events

In addition to our monthly meetings we also try to organise two parties per year, one in the summer and one in the New Year.

The New Year Party is held at Armitage Bridge Church and the Summer Party in the beautiful setting of Beaumont Park Visitor Centre.

A Buffet is provided to which members either contribute a food item or a donation towards the cost. There are also plenty of drinks both soft and alcoholic.

A formal programme is not produced for these meetings but members tend to contribute lighter and more impromptu items and often there are community items in which everyone is invited to join in with.

New Year Party 2020

Our New Year party was once again a huge sucess with a record attendance of around 50 members and guests.

An excellent selection of music was performed including vocal items, a wind quartet, a guitar ensemble with violin, flute solos, violin solos and piano duets. a highlight of the afternoon was a costumed performance of the 'Cat Duet' and another excellent feature was the massed choral item to finish the musical programme.

A delicious buffet was served following the music and after the buffet the string ensemble entertained us with some light string music.

 Summer Party 2019
Our summer party was held at the Beaumont Park visitor centre which has now become a regular venue for this event.
A wide variety of music was performed including a wind quintet, vocal solos, clarinet solos and flute solos but the highlight of the afternoon was a massed woodwind and brass group who ended the musical entertainment with some themes from Grand Operas.

This group had not rehearsed together previously and it was wonderful gor people to just be able to turn up and join in.
After the music there was a delicious buffet and time to talk in a social atmosphere and catch up with friends old and new.

New Year Party 2019
This year for the first time we held our New Year Party at Armitage Bridge Church instead of at the home of one of our members. The event was a great success and the larger venue offered the opportunity to get some larger groups of musicians playing together as well as the usual small groups and soloists.
The event started with the music which included a wind quintet, a soprano singer and a bass singer, some violin solos and duets, a piano duet and a duet for two pianos and an excellent string group.

After this music a fabulous buffet was served which had a wondeful selection of salads, meats and desserts. We were even entertained by a string quartet performing 'parlour songs' during the food.

Ruby Reunion 23rd June 2018

Our Ruby reunion was an excellent event and a good opportunity for retired members to come along and meet present members for a sociable afternoon. The music was organised so that anyone that would like to was able to join in.

The afternoon started with the wind and brass ensemble playing 'Italian Festival' by Glenn Ossler and the 'English Folk Song Suite' by Vaughan Williams.  This was followed by a singing group with a wide variety of items.

The string ensemble gave a wonderful performance of Bach's Brandenberg Concerto No.3 and this was followed by an orchestral ensemble playing extracts from Schubert's Overture 'Rosamund' and Bizet's 'L'Arlesienne Suites 1 and 2'

Following the music an afternoon tea was served which included a celebratory 40th birthday cake                                                                                                    which  had been baked and iced by members.
